Loan Rangers: Smyth on target; National League South curtailed Share article:
IT WAS a positive week for Paul Smyth at Accrington Stanley – who picked up four points in League One.
Smyth scored the winning goal as Stanley saw off fellow promotion chasers Doncaster Rovers 1-0 last Wednesday, playing for the full 90 minutes, before featuring for the first 45 minutes of Accrington’s 1-1 home draw with Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
Also in League One, it was a mixed bag for Mide Shodipo’s Oxford United – beaten by Tranmere Rovers in their EFL Trophy semi-final in midweek before bouncing back to draw 0-0 at Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Femi Akinwande netted an 87th minute penalty as Town’s U21s were beaten 1-0 at Colchester United this afternoon, skipper Joe Robinson (pictured) having been shown a straight red card in the incident which led to the spot-kick.
Mark Kennedy named an unusually experienced team with Paul Digby partnering Robinson at centre-back, Jay Tabb and Larsen Touré featuring in midfield, and Luke Varney starting up front.
The former Blackburn striker came close to opening the scoring early on when Shane McLoughlin played him through, but Varney s left-foot shot across Dillon Barnes struck the far post before the ball was cleared to safety.

MIDE Shodipo featured in both of Oxford United’s fixtures last week as they recorded two more wins in their latest quest for promotion from League One.
The winger – who has already hit 10 goals for Karl Robinson’s men this term – played 59 minutes as the U’s saw off Bristol Rovers 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium last Tuesday, prior to his 68th-minute introduction as Oxford enjoyed a 2-1 success over Wigan Athletic on home soil on Saturday.
Across the city, Aaron Drewe’s Oxford City hit four goals twice last week on their way to separate comprehensive successes over Hungerford Town (4-0, Tuesday) and Chelmsford City (4-1, Saturday). Drewe played the full 90 minutes in both games.

KAI Woollard-Innocent helped Eastbourne Borough rise to seventh in the National League South on Saturday by playing 90 minutes in their 3-2 victory against Hungerford Town.
In what was their first encounter for two weeks – following a fortnight-long circuit break across the division – The Sports made the perfect return by beating fifth-placed Hungerford.
Charley Kendall – who is also spending time on loan at Eastbourne – did not feature in the game but he and Woollard-Innocent will both hope to play a part in Eastbourne’s next game, which is against Dartford on Tuesday.

Custodian Matt Macey joined Scottish outfit
The 26-year-old has made two senior appearances for the club, both coming in 2017. He then enjoyed loan spells at Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town.
Hibs were facing a goalkeeping crisis after back-up Dillon Barnes was recalled by QPR with number one Ofir Marciano currently injured.
However, their worries have now been quelled after securing Macey’s services. His first game sees him take on Celtic this weekend, Kieran Tierney’s boyhood and former club.
