The Director-General/Chief Executive, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, has assured that its furniture cluster park, currently under construction at the Industrial Development Centre (IDC), Idu, Abuja, will on completion in 2021, enhance the competitiveness of micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs) in the country and boost efforts to diversify the economy.
He pointed out that by design, clusters provide economies of scale by having shared infrastructure and common facility for small businesses, adding that this will have spill off effects on other enterprises.
Speaking during a facility tour of the Furniture Cluster Park Radda said, the project was conceived by the agency in 2017 to among other things, provide a favourable environment for furniture entrepreneurs to thrive.
Says new policy framework underway

The Director-General, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Umar Dikko Radda, Thursday said efforts were ongoing by the agency to establish its own microfinance bank (MFB) to cater for financial needs of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
He also disclosed that a new MSMEs policy had been finalised and currently awaiting the approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Speaking at a forum for industry correspondents in Abuja, he explained that the proposed SMEDAN MFB will “enable the Nigerian MSMEs have direct access to credit with very simplified and modern means of achieving that.”

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, Tuesday, inaugurated the State Council on the implementation of the national Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs.
Inaugurating Council in Makurdi, Governor Ortom who pointed out that the 14-member body was critical to building the state’s economy explained that its responsibilities includes provision of guidance on policies and strategies to drive the development of MSMEs subsector, fostering increased awareness and ensuring that national policy on MSMEs achieved intended goals among others.
