and a former senior policy adviser to governor pence and julie and david are back with me. quick reaction to the news that is just coming in as we are waiting to get more reaction potentially to hear more from the congressman himself. this is a big deal. few republicans have been in as awkward of a position as jason chaffetz in the campaign, as you pointed out. runs the house oversight committee and having to do oversight in the time of trump in a white house environment that has so many potential conflicts of interest really challenging stuff for him. i mean, if hillary clinton had won, he would have been a republican all-star. you know, there would have been a lot of appetite to go after all sorts of different investigations on the clinton white house. with the trump white house, his role is a little dicier. so, it s surprising and interesting news that he s not seeking re-election. ryan, what is your take away on this and the political pressures that the congressman has faced?

for those two paths, i think the odds are good. are we two different personalities on, the house side, between the chairman and the ranking member, are we losing sight of forest through trees? well, personal relationship dozen matter. but this will unfold had two faceses. the first will look at what russia did. that will be the subject of tomorrow s hearing. what does our intelligence say about what russia did. that s safe ground for republicans for the majority. what is a little dicier, was the trump team in contact with, or to use the fbi s material, coordinating with the russians. that s a dicier proposition for the president and his allies on the hill. and the test will not be phase one. it will be whether they go relentlessly to phase ii. kristin welk here had to get some reporting, bill kristol, thank you to all of you for
