EPISD school board elections: Runoff for District 5 set for June 5

More new faces than incumbents after El Paso school board elections

View Comments There will be more new faces than incumbents on the El Paso and Socorro school boards following Saturday s election results. At El Paso Independent School District, District 3 trustee Josh Acevedo was the only incumbent to win re-election. Former District 1 trustee and board president Bob Geske and District 5 trustee Chuck Taylor did not to seek re-election. District 4 incumbent Diane Dye was decisively defeated by newcomer Isabel Hernandez, unofficial results showed the two-term trustee with less than 10% of the vote in the six-way race. Hernandez, who had more than 57% of the vote, was one of four EPISD candidates to receive campaign contributions from the Kids First political action committee, which has historically supported charter schools.

El Paso election results: EISD, SISD school board seats to be decided

View Comments Three El Paso Independent School District candidates have won their respective district races, but the fourth seat is headed to a runoff, according to unofficial final results. In District 4, Incumbent Diane Dye lost her seat to Isabel Hernandez, with less than 10% of the vote in her district compared to Hernandez s 57.6 percent.  District 3 incumbent Josh Acevedo won in a landslide, securing nearly 70% of votes; the only district incumbent to win a re-election bid in the election. Acevedo won by four votes in 2019. In District 1, newcomer Leah Hanany won with 50.3% of the vote; just enough votes to avoid a runoff.
