Jacques d’Amboise, exuberant star of the New York City Ballet, dies at 86 Sarah Halzack © John Dominis/The Life Picture Collection via Getty Images Jacques d’Amboise, left, at a 1963 rehearsal with New York City Ballet choreographer George Balanchine. Jacques d’Amboise, an exuberant star of the New York City Ballet for three decades and a favorite of its legendarily exacting choreographer George Balanchine before becoming a champion of arts education, died May 2 at his home in Manhattan. He was 86. The cause was complications from a stroke, said his daughter, the actress Charlotte d’Amboise.
Balanchine was famously fixated on female dancers, turning to them as artistic muses and making them the centerpieces of his ballets. Mr. d’Amboise, a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet from 1953 to 1984, was an exception.

New York, NY The Isaacs Center richly celebrated Black History month with a two-hour virtual presentation last Friday that featured performances from an eclectic mix of seniors, community members, students and staff, as well as special appearances by elected officials.
The event kicked off with the singing of the Black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” which was written as a poem in 1900 by James Weldon Johnson and set to music by his brother J. Rosamond Johnson in 1905 for the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
