– James Carpenter is originally from outside New York City, having grown up on the mean streets of Scarsdale. His love for the Adirondacks was inspired by years spent at a small summer camp on Upper Saranac Lake. In 2003 he moved with his family to Lake Clear. Before becoming a teaching assistant at the high school, James has had a myriad of jobs including limousine company owner, social studies teacher, copier salesman, stay-at-home dad and tele-evangelist. He is the father of Charlie (TA extraordinaire in the elementary school) and Maggie (college sophomore at the University of Rochester), and rides the coattails of his wife Laura, who is a scientist. He is a graduate of both St. Lawrence University and Fordham University. He is a proud member of the Elks and has been the master of ceremonies on Trivia Night at the Elks club for the past 23 years, with the help of his good friend Tyler Chase. On Tuesday, Jan. 12, the state Olympic Regional Development Authority and the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism joined together for a web presentation on what could be expected regarding recreation opportunities in the Lake Placid area over the upcoming days.
