• Lawmakers scuffle, heap abuse on each other • Assembly session prorogued without voting on constitution amendment bill ISLAMABAD: Equally unruly treasury and opposition members on Thursday turned the National Assembly into a house of shame as they kept shouting, sloganeering, naming, thumping desks, whistling, scuffling and even abusing each other almost continuously during more than three-hour long sitting during an inconclusive debate on the controversial constitution amendment bill seeking open Senate vote. For quite some time, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri was forced to run the assembly proceedings while sitting amid a ring of sergeants after a brawl among the lawmakers in front of his dais where the opposition members had gathered to lodge protest against the chair for what they called running the house one-sidedly and not giving them the floor.

Govt pays Rs 473 bln subsidy to power sector during last year Thu 21st January 2021 | 06:30 PM ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jan, 2021 ) :Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub on Thursday said the government had paid Rs 473 billion subsidy to power sector during last year despite economic crunch. Addressing a press conference accompanied by Minster for Planning and Development Asad Umer and Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Power Tabish Gohar, he said the PTIgovernment inherited capacity payments fromPML-Ngovernment. The agreements inked by the PML-Ngovernment with power sector were on bad intentions and corrupt practices, he added. The minister said due to these agreements, the increase in electricity tariff was Rs 2.18 but the present government had decided to increase the rates by Rs 1.95 in per unit.
