desserted. a year later but there are homeowners there still not giving up. they re vowing to rebuild. listen to this. a year later it s under repair. no kitchen, no bathroom. this room is painted and the floor just went down a year later. but we still have a long way to go. reporter: today it is about the memories. one of the things i remember the most is being in atlantic city or just north of atlantic city and saw a family go into basically what was a shell of a house. what i heard was a scream but it was a scream of joy when someone found actually a family picture, one little momento they could hold on to that gave them hope to begin the rebuilding. that is one of my memories of this storm that came ashore a year ago today. back to you guys. thanks. keep in mind lower manhattan was wiped out and all throughout long island, most of that region still
of food, raising money for charity and raising glasses to the new boy whose name we don t know. it s a quiet place. there s a little bit of traffic on the main road, but otherwise, desserted. this is pretty much a quintessential village 50 miles west of london. there s a number of villages included in bucklebury. three along the main road. there are royal connections here going back to elizabeth i. she came here. there s a line of trees planted in her memory. the current queen has been here with a line of trees planted for her. a suggestion perhaps they are going to plant more trees for the new prince, william and kate. the baby and the happy couple will be here to be welcomed by kate s parents. there s a fair amount of feeling protective over the middletons and trying to shield
troops going through a desserted town as people were holed up in their residences knowing that this man is on the loose and knowing that he was believed to be the one who blew up his own neighbors in the boston marathon. knowing that his brother died and he was at his last inn. the thought i was trying to finish earlier was when ran on foot it seemed clear to most that he did not have the tools he had along the way. no way to know whether he was armed but he fled quickly. they didn t know if he had a suicide vest on him as authorities say his brother did and they didn t believe he would have any way to carry with him any explosives. so the the thinking was he had either escaped the area or was a setting duck in hiding. the third option was that he might have died because we had reports earlier afternoon but we weren t completely comfortable enough to take them to air that there had been blood found at the scene this they believed to be his blood.
and then there were some bright lights in the neighborhood. for the most part it was quiet, desserted. there were a few people walking the streets and all of a sudden, once this happens, huge celebrations, hundreds of people in the streets. it was cathartic. it was a unique situation. in all my years i don t think i ve seen a situation where a community has poured out onto the streets to embrace the men and women who were there to protect them. there was a feeling of relief, catharsis catharsis, and there were officers from all over the commonwealth of massachusetts. as we were driving through watertown, over the river to boston and here to this hospital, there were a number of street corners where we saw hundreds of students, it looked like, just cheering every vehicle that went by, even our
