THE GOVERNMENT WILL table a bill next week that seeks to change the law to allow media and others report the names of child murder victims.
The issue has arisen as a result of a recent Court of Appeal decision about the reporting of certain murder cases.
That ruling considerably changed certain long-standing practices related to how the media reports on child murders.

Minister McEntee received cabinet approval to support the Children (Amendment) Bill 2020 as the most efficient means of amending section 252 of the Children Act 2001
Changes will allow parents to publically remember their child and will allow for the identification of the person accused of the murder/manslaughter of the child
Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee TD, has received Government approval to progress the changes which need to be made to s252 of the Children Act 2001. This action is being taken in order to address the main issues arising out of the Court of Appeal ruling in DPP v EC and Media Outlets.

Jim O Callaghan Section 252 is unfair to the family and the memory of the deceased child
Fianna Fáil s Justice spokesman Jim O Callaghan has called on the Government to quickly amend the Children Act, describing the prohibition of naming a child once someone has been charged with an offence relating to that child as an absurdity .
Mr O Callaghan said the murder of 16-year-old Josh Dunne highlights the gap in the Children Act.
Speaking on RTÉ s News at One, Mr O Callaghan described it as an absurdity that under Section 252 of the Act, the name of the child cannot be reported if and when someone is charged with their murder.

Fianna Fail Senator, Fiona O’Loughlin, has welcomed the publication today of the Affordable Housing Bill 2020.
But the Social Democrat spokesperson,Deputy Cian O’Callaghan, was not so welcoming saying that relying on the private sector is a broken model.
Senator O’Loughlin said: “The lack of affordable housing is one of the biggest issues we face in south Kildare and this Bill is very positive news for us today. It provides for the introduction of three new schemes to put affordability at the heart of the housing system and prioritise the increased supply of affordable homes.
