Experts warn deadly overdoses may become more common

(WHEC) After a series of deadly drug overdose incidents, local experts warned such cases may become more common, and that they lack the tools to address them all. “We’ve had overdoses outside treatment programs,” said Dr. Tim Wiegand, a toxicologist with Strong Memorial Hospital. “We’ve had overdoses in the community bathrooms. We ve had overdoses at the street level. The Monroe County Sheriff s Office reports it saw seven overdose deaths in just two days. Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a record 92,000 deadly overdoses last year.
