Pupils to learn to spot mental health issues through charity s new scheme

Pupils to learn to spot mental health issues through charity’s new scheme Pupils will learn to look out for signs of mental health issues (Gareth Fuller/PA) Secondary school pupils will be taught to recognise signs of mental health issues in their friends and family in a new initiative from a first aid charity. St Andrew’s First Aid has created the new Ready for Life programme for young people aged 14 and over to help create a generation of “mental health first aiders”. It will be piloted in five local authority areas: South Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire, Dundee, Glasgow and East Renfrewshire and it is hoped the scheme will be rolled out across the country if it is a success.

Hammering home the green agenda at South Lanarkshire College

The construction sector has always had to be flexible and to move with the times. It always needs to adapt to influences such as materials available, new methods of building, architectural styles – and, of late, the aim of creating a low-carbon society. Traditionally, it has ranked alongside transport as one of the biggest emitters of carbon. However, things are changing. The industry is now rapidly improving its environmental awareness and credentials. The Faculty of Construction at South Lanarkshire College is at the forefront of this drive, delivering a green energy curriculum and providing courses that include micro-renewable energy installation, servicing and training.
