<em>Jacobin</em> magazine, the primary voice of the Democratic Socialists of America, published an article on October 8 that fraudulently presents the recent sellout contract negotiated by the nurses' union at Michigan Medicine as a “pathbreaking win.”
A news release says the hotel would stand 14 stories and have nearly 300 rooms along with 30,000 square feet of amenities and shopping. But some wonder about past development promises that they say, have gone unfulfilled.
Michigan Medicine is big business and the Board of Regents are the equivalent of corporate directors. In directing nurses to protest at Regents’ meetings, the union is deliberately diverting their struggle into a blind alley.
These organizations seek to buttress the union bureaucrats who block strike action and promote the illusion that nurses can rely on the Democratic Party to put an end to intolerable working conditions.
