Urgent appeal to recruit Care Heroes in west Cheshire

AN urgent recruitment drive has been launched across the North West for adult care workers to help care for Cheshire West and Chester s most vulnerable at home and in care homes. The Care Hero Campaign – which originally launched in April 2020 at the peak of the first Covid-19 wave – highlights the staffing crisis currently faced by the care sector in the North West, with a staff absence of 10 per cent in care homes seeing a shortage of almost 5,000 staff. With the pandemic continuing to put increased pressure on hospital wards and social care services, local authorities including Cheshire West and Chester Council are keen to recruit even more carers in the short-term to deal with the crisis and beyond.

Covid tier review: When Cheshire finds out if it is still Tier 2

Both Cheshire East and West have been in Tier 2 – the ‘high alert’ level – since December 2. The rules currently followed include households being banned from mixing indoors, alcohol only being served with a substantial meal and crowds of up to 2,000 or 50 per cent capacity at outdoor events. Officials at Cheshire West and Chester Council expect the borough to remain in Tier 2, deputy chief executive Delyth Curtis told a public meeting last week. Both boroughs have seen their infection rates rise so far this week – with Cheshire East’s rate rising from 103.3 to 115.6 per 100,000 people in seven days, and Cheshire West’s rising from 103.5 to 124.8.
