I would have thought its one to one, but the models say its only threequarters. So if you get six degrees warmer, you actually literally cannot go outside. But we werent around in the times things were like this, and surely we could evolve. If you give it enough time. But we wont. Right . And so the scenario which scares me the most is that you actually have to go you cannot go outside, and you rely on airconditioning for dear life. Its not a convenience. Its otherwise to you cannot make it. And we know that from mining. Miners going into very deep mines have to wear ice vests in order to manage their body temperature. And thats because the humidity there is high, and the temperature is high. In arizona you can sweat, and you cool, right . In 36 degree dew point temperature, as the meteorologists call it red bulb temperature, you actually cannot survive. So life could get rough, right . And we are making changes on a scale evolution didnt really have to deal with. And i would argue at

And so we continue to move to make progress, but we have a lot of Unfinished Business. We have a lot of Unfinished Business in the area of Economic Justice as well. And it starts with the minimum wage. Nobody who works a fulltime job in this country should have to live in poverty. [applause] and what we see all too frequently are people working hard and falling further behind, people who have to make choices between do i pay the mortgage, do i pay the rent, or do i pay for my daughters medicine . Those are choices that we should never have to make here in america. I applaud the san diego city council, i applaud other local councils who are tackling this issue. Thirteen states in the last year have raised the minimum wage. Business openers across Business Owners across this country tell me, tom, this is a consumptiondeprived economy, and the way to get more customers is to put more money in their pockets. Thats why we need to raise the minimum wage. And if we want to expand opportunity

Christoff which triggered a conversation. Many e wrote anhe wrote an article where he said many people rendered themselves unavailable or not asking questions that were relevant to the public and in some ways fostered a disconnect with the public that is necessary. He didnt say this is true of all intellectuals but he did argue theyre a dying breed. Others said theres many good, interesting voices out there. The point of todays panel is not so much to have a debate about whether he was right or wrong nor have a debate familiar at almost every oha conversation about the role of the public intellectual or should historians be tried to do this. I think most of us in the panel given what we do start and its a good thing for those that what to do it. It has a lot of value. What i wanted to do when i put this together was bring together people who have been doing interesting work and ask them about their lives and their career and experience and give a little autobiography about how this has

Governor, thank you very much for being with us. You squeaked home. A bit of a close election. You were not quite at the 60 threshold for a wailing. I am a republican in new jersey. I am just worried right getting over the finish line. It was gratifying. What was striking was to look at the detail of the exit polls. The latino vote, over 25 of the black vote, running against a woman democratic candidate. All in a state where president vote a year of the ago. A lot of questions about the future of the repugnant party. The future of the Republican Party. How did you do it . You do your jobs. I often think people make Political Leadership to consultative. What people expect you to do is do your job. First and foremost. Jersey,s in new republican, democrat, independent, felt as if we had done a job our job. Second thing, if you want to reach out to constituencies that have not normally voted for your party, you cant go six months before your election. We made a concerted effort from the ti

Well, you know, i think it is if trust is kind of the Gold Standard of what it takes to be a real leader in the military, then i think responsibility and its kissing cousin, accountability, are probably right there as well. And, you know, weve had a few missteps here recently that were trying to overcome missteps that i attribute to 10 years of frenetic activity. We forgot about how we balance character and confidence. And i think we forgot a little about how we balance character and competence. We began to value competence. By the way, you cant have either or, actually. You know, you dont want a leader in a combat zone whos really a man of great character but cant fight his way out of a paper bag, but nor do you want, you know, the ultimate warrior god who isnt a man of character. So these are ceos of enterprises, of businesses. The military leads people into harms way. But putting that distinction aside, are the attributes of a good leader roughly the same, or different between the m
