Fatal accident lawsuit update: Case settled in Delaware County court for $200K

Dozor | University of Pennsylvania Law School MEDIA – A fatal motor vehicle collision and subsequent lawsuit in a Delaware County court has had a settlement in the action approved at a final amount of $200,000. Daniel M. Shaffer (Executor of the Estate of Margery A. Shaffer) of Swarthmore initially filed a petition in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas on Feb. 3 versus Patrick J. Barron and United Services Automobile Association (doing business as “USAA”) of San Antonio, Texas. “The Petitioner believes and therefore avers that the decedent Margery A. Shaffer died on July 26, 2019 at approximately 12:57 a.m. as a result of the pedestrian/vehicle accident, without lengthy conscious pain and suffering, which is consistent with the Medical Examiner’s records,” the petition stated.

Advance Fitness sued by man who fell doing box jumps

Schuster MEDIA - A Sharon Hill man sued Advance Fitness LLC of Collingdale after he fell off a box during box jumps in a workout class, according to documents filed Feb. 25 in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.  Plaintiff Eugene Brown was attending a group exercise class at Advance Fitness in August 2019, where the instructor directed the attendants to begin a round of box jumps. When Brown placed his foot on the box, it moved due to being unsecured on the floor, the suit says. As a result, Brown slipped off the box and fell, sustaining injuries including a right triceps tear, the suit says.
