Indiana Borough Council on Tuesday night discussed their much-anticipated return to in-person meetings at the borough building on 8th Street.
As part of that return to in-person meetings, upgrades are planned for the council meeting room to turn it into a “Zoom room” to make it possible for those unable to attend or take part in the meetings in person to do so through Zoom video chat, which has been utilized by the borough to hold meetings since the start of the pandemic. Borough Manager C. Michael Foote said that the upgrades will not be ready in time for the meetings in June.

During Tuesday night’s meeting, some members of Indiana Borough Council gave their opinion about holding outdoor events in the borough.
Outdoor events from the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival to the annual Lucy Donnelly Holiday Parade were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As restrictions on outdoor gatherings eased, borough manager Michael Foote wanted guidance on how events should be held. Borough Council Vice President Gerald Smith stated the apparent majority opinion of allowing the events go on provided event organizers can enforce Covid-19 protocols.
To that end, Borough Council approved event applications and open container waivers for both Downtown Indiana’s upcoming 3rd Thursday celebrations at IRMC Park and the Delaney Chevrolet Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival on May 29th, which is set to be held on Philadelphia Street between 9th and 7th Streets to help with social distancing.
