County Wexford has won three Ocean Hero Recognition Awards in Ireland s Clean Coasts programme for outstanding volunteer work in helping to protect and keep the coastline clean.
Wexford Sub Aqua Club was honoured for its Long-Term Commitment as a longstanding member of the Clean Coasts initiative; Wexford Estuary Clean Coasts Group received an award in an Against the Odds category for adapting to Covid-19 restrictions while Sean Ferguson was recognised as one of the country s Dedicated Individuals who went above and beyond or strongly promoted the 2 Minute Beach Clean Campaign.
Sean said he is passionate about cleaning the coastline to protect our marine environment, birds and other wildlife.
North Louth based volunteers on the Clean Coasts programme were named Ocean Heroes this week.
Clean Coasts are recognising the work of some outstanding coastal volunteer groups across Ireland through their Ocean Hero Recognition Awards. Each year, these awards honour the invaluable contribution Clean Coasts volunteers, groups and communities have made towards conserving our spectacular coastline.
There are two groups from County Louth being recognised, Cooley Community Alert under the Against the Odds category and Joan Conaghy in the Dedicated Individuals category. Michael Muckian from Cooley Community Alert says, we are passionate about cleaning the coast as it is one of or most important natural resources and we owe it to the next generation to supply them something to cherish .
Ballynamona Clean Coasts are being recognised under the ‘Against the Odds’ category while
Marc McCarthy in Schull, and paddle-boarder Dave Ludgate of Subowti are both being recognised under the ‘Dedicated Individuals’ category.
