On with this plane, why is this happening? based on this reporting which is based upon apparently what came from the flight voice recorder on board, at no time did they realize the plane itself was doing something different in terms of the trim of the plane to make it dive. they kept talking about things like air speed, according to this report, they were concerned that somehow they were losing speed and that s what was making this plane nose down toward the sea. the bottom line is, if this is correct, this is what they went through for nine minutes trying to find an answer. then we have this other report from bloomberg suggesting that the day before the same plane had a similar issue and the only difference was there was another pilot in the cockpit who was simply riding there. he might be deadheading or whatever the explanation is when this other pilot happened to be there. but he recognized what was happening and he told them to shut down part of the system and

You buy your ticket, you re going to fly on a given day and you ve got your itinerary, but with that itinerary you also get a 37,000-word contract you ve agreed to. the contract of carriage. and it s not only to protect the airline, what they want to do, it is very much an outgrowth of consumer protections that are in place for for the flying public about what you re entitled to if you do get bumped. there s this massive document. it is more complex it s far more complex than the itunes license agreement. im, we kind of click past these things but they do govern our lives. so, you know, as far as this situation goes, yes, it is legal in a situation when a crew member that is deadheading to get to their next assignment needs a seat on the airplane, a seat is made available. and there are all kinds of rules and policies that go along with this that say who ultimately gets pulled off first.

Are working these long hours and they are making critical care decisions. well, that also happens in the commuters where people, they don t necessarily have to be dome sild where they are flying out of. so a lot of times you are commuting staying in a hotel room, and then flying the next day, or deadheading, if you will, on a plane before a flight. so this is an area that has been well-known to the faa. and they have been trying to take steps to mid-mitigate that risk. do you think they have done enough? i mean they ve changed some of the rules of the flying time. that 15-hour rule. that s correct. and they are actively trying that because fatigue from a human factor standpoint is a large is a large factor on when you start making appreciable errors that can result in an accident and or incident. certainly this horrible incident has shown new light on the mental well-being and the well-being of our pilots you want them to be safe you want them to be okay of course

Tom, are we going now to see a domino effect here? really, a public support of airlines changing their protocol so that two members of flight crew have to be in the cockpit at all times. yeah that s the rule in the united states. it s an faa rule. it comes after 9/11 of course but as you heard from the ceo of lufthansa, that s not the rule worldwide. however, we have already seen just in the last few hours three carriers adopt that rule. effective immediately, in essence. it s going to be norwegian air as well as easy jet out of the u.k. and air canada. those three have already said just in the last few hours that effective immediately or within the next few days their flight crews will be required to have that policy where they only leave the flight deck on the circumstance of somebody being able to come in and take their place, at least standing guard. for example, a flight attendant or maybe an off-duty pilot who might be deadheading. i think we re going to see this kind of snowba
