Sir – Will you kindly permit me space in the columns of your widely circulating, democratic and nationalist journal to draw the attention of public electors in general, and the League of British Ex-Servicemen in particular, to the brutal and sweated conditions under which ex-servicemen (some of them survivors of the Ulster Divisions, others of them survivors of the 16th and 10th Irish Divisions, who thrashed the Germans on the Somme and covered themselves with renown when fighting for “the rights of small nations” – as they then thought they were – in the blood-and-mud-sodden trenches of France and Flanders, of Suvla and Sedalbar) are forced to work on the Armagh county roads?
