Company says it spent more than €2m in 18 months tackling the issues

A major County Kildare meat processing concern has been fined a total of €24,000 for breaches of environmental legislation.
It follows complaints of noise and smell made by residents living close to the processing operation.
Six fines of €4,000 each, the maximum allowed, were imposed on the Naas-based Arrow Group Limited at a Naas District Court sitting today.
The Arrow Group is a long established concern and includes individual operations like QK Coldstores, Dawn Farm Foods and Dawn Farms Distribution.

ICT firm Nostra is to create 120 new jobs over the next two years its Lucan, Co Dublin base.
The highly skilled positions are in Engineering, IT Support, Cybersecurity and Sales and Marketing and will bring the company s total employee number to 270.
Nostra was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Lucan, Dublin. It also has satellite regional offices in Athenry in Co Galway and in Mountmellick in Co Laois.
It provides end-to-end managed IT solutions to a number of world-leading brands and multinationals across multiple industries including manufacturing, pharma, education, healthcare and fintech.
Naas woman leaves home to sleep because of noise from local food plant

A Naas woman told a court that she has to leave her home to sleep somewhere else because of noise emanating from a local food processing plant.
The woman, Helena McGrath, made a noise complaint application at Naas District Court on February 17 against Arrow Group Ltd.
The Arrow Group is a long established concern and includes individual operations like QK Coldstores, Dawn Farm Foods and Dawn Farms Distribution.
He also told the court she has had health issues, including the insertion of a stent.
Solicitor Joe Morrin, representing Arrow, said that a lot of investment has been undertaken to deal with this issue.
A total of 683 complaints were received about smells compared to 300 in 2019. April, the first full month of lockdown, saw the highest number of complaints overall, with 187 lodged.
The EPA is responsible for licencing and monitoring activities at 830 factories and industrial installations across the country and it said 86pc of them attracted no complaints at all.
But it added it was seriously concerned about a number of plants on its ‘national priority sites’ list for the second year in a row.
The Arrow Group attracted 198 complaints about its operations in Naas, Co Kildare where its site includes Dawn Farm Foods, the Culinary Food Group, QK Coldstores and Maudlins Waste Management. Odours and noise were the main issues reported.
