Mosaic Life Care has 52 patients with COVID-19 in its system with 51 in St. Joseph and one in Maryville. Chief medical officer Dr. Davin Turner says the Delta variant of COVID-19 is the most common variant so far in this area. “The Delta variant is more contagious, so it’s more easily spread and when you have a population that has a low vaccination rate, it’s going to spread more rapidly, especially because it just is more contagious,” Turner tells St. Joseph Post.

Northwest Missouri has seen a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. Mosaic Life Care’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Davin Turner says getting vaccinated is the key. “Even if you contract it and you’ve been vaccinated, is that you’re not becoming severely ill, you’re not ending up in the ICU, and you’re not dying from the disease,” Dr. Turner tells St. Joseph Post. “They’re finding that these vaccines are very effective against all the variants at this time.” Dr. Turner says there has been an increase in positivity rates across the board and for a few reasons.
