Local artist's painting will honor his late wife's wishes; benefit Cancer Services for Davidson County

The Dispatch Painting has been a part of Brian Edwards life since he was a 9-year-old in Janet Griggs  classroom at Northwest Elementary. From the day his fourth-grade teacher praised his drawing of a random face during a class art project, he was hooked on being creative. It might seem odd that a self-described Davidson County country boy who also loves to hunt and display his taxidermied trophies on his home s walls is passionate about drawing and painting. After all, the art world doesn t have too many camouflage-wearing painters who work at a major tobacco company. While painting has been a love for most his life, it is not the only love, nor the strongest love he has experienced.

Davidson County native plants counseling service in his hometown

The Dispatch Longtime licensed counselor and Davidson County native Mark Adams has moved his private practice to East Center Street. The 1987 Central Davidson High graduate said he initially opened Restoration for Men in Lexington and is committed to keeping it here because he recognizes there is a need for counseling services in the area. He offers in-person and teletherapy counseling. The name of the business does not mean he counsels only men. He accepts both male and female adult clients, and male juvenile clients. The word Men should be taken more in the sense of mankind, he said. Before moving to East Center Street, his office was on South Main Street.

Higher School Certificate: Public schools shine in Sydney's north

Advertisement Kate Waddington suffered none of Sydney s usual middle class angst over where to send her twins James and Mia to high school. We are just really lucky to live in an area where the local public schools are fantastic, she said. We re pretty keen on public education as well, and it s easy when the local schools are that good. There s certainly a fairly high-socio economic demographic here, and that does help to a very large extent as well. It certainly doesn t do any harm.
