SAGINAW, MI More than two years since he allegedly killed his roommate and removed his heart, a Saginaw County man is on the cusp of standing trial. However, the issue of his sanity is causing the trial to take an unusual format.
The trial of Morgan D. Notestine, 46, will take place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9. Saginaw County Circuit Judge Manvel Trice III is to preside, with the proceeding being a bench trial rather than a jury trial.
In a bench trial, the judge is the sole determiner of fact.

SAGINAW, MI A Saginaw teen has been charged with a life offense for his alleged role in a robbery that led to a man suffering a gunshot wound to his head.
Elijah H. Williams, 18, on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 28, appeared before Saginaw County District Judge David D. Hoffman for arraignment on single counts of armed robbery causing injury and felony firearm. The former is punishable by up to life imprisonment, while a conviction of the latter comes with a mandatory minimum two-year sentence, to be served consecutively with any related stint.

SAGINAW, MI A Saginaw man is facing two felonies after prosecutors allege he provided a fatal dose of suspected heroin to another man.
Michael Mossner, 30, on Oct. 22 was found deceased in a home where he was living with relatives on Spurwood Drive in Saginaw Township. A subsequent investigation by the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, or BAYANET, determined Mossner died of an overdose, prosecutors said.
