When the Sajan family decided to move from their six-bedroom villa on Dubai’s The Palm and build their dream home at the exclusive Emirates Hills neighbourhood, they knew they had set themselves up for quite the task – even for a family in the construction business.
“We loved the villa on The Palm and enjoyed the location by the sea with our own private beach. But it was a ready-made villa, and we wanted to build something that was our own, something tailor-made for us,” explains Adel Sajan, managing director of Danube Group, best known for its building materials.

A heartbreaking animated short film about a couple grieving for their daughter killed in a school shooting is now a hot Oscars 2021 contender after becoming a TikTok sensation.
If Anything Happens I Love You, directed by Will McCormack and Michael Govier, was released on Netflix in November 2020 and quickly became a phenomenon on the platform. It then went viral on the Chinese video-sharing platform, as users challenged each other to watch the 12-minute film without crying.
Some users called it “the saddest movie of the year”.
The 2D film is among 10 shortlisted for the Oscars in the Animated Short Film category. Out of this, five will make it to the nominees list
Switchh, which was entirely shot in the UAE, has been released.
Starring actor Vikrant Massey and featuring the big screen debut of Dubai resident Naren Kumar, the film will premiere on streaming service Eros Now on March 21.
Switchh tells the story of a millionaire, played by Kumar, whose passion for the high-stakes world of illegal street racing gets him entangled in an elaborate crime plotted by Massey’s character, who plays a racer.

, with streaming company Eros Now eventually securing the rights.

As the only active Filipino comic performing in English in the UAE, one would assume Imah Dumagay would have the run of the house. But that distinction has not led to a full-time career in stand-up, even after three years in the business.
“Stand-up is booming, but you cannot make a living out of this,” says Dumagay, who works as an executive secretary in Dubai. “Here, it’s just a hobby and pastime for most comedians.”
Still, that has not stopped the 37-year-old from passionately pursuing what she calls her “true love” – making people laugh. And it’s something the world desperately needs in the middle of a pandemic, she says.
