Three minutes. They immediately extended their ladders to help residents on every floor. Witnesses say even before help arrived people inside were scrambling to climb down. They were trying to get everybody out, but people on the fire escape were already trying to get down on their own. Thats how fast it was. Reporter complicating a rescue effort for more than 150 firefighters who responded, the weather. The weather at the time was in the low teens, Single Digits with the windchill. Many of those who had to rush out of their homes were forced to flee without fully getting dressed. It was like freezing point. Rescue boats are scouring t ini ponchartrain. It exploded last night. The platform is used to transfer oil. Cleaning chemicals reportedly ignited on the rig, and its unclear if oil is leaking into the lake. And this morning firefighters say they are finally making some progress against the Deadly Wildfires that have ravaged Northern California. Some of the evacuation orders have been lifted but the danger is far from over. At least 40 deaths are blamed on the files and 5,700 homes and buildings have been destroyed. Seth lem p has more.
