Post-Succession, a terrible darkness has descended on Tellyland. The only light comes from candles on tables, with desperate people huddled around them.
If you skipped The Gallows Pole because you saw the listing and thought: “Nah, I’m not in the mood for a grim-sounding 18th-century costume drama” (my instinct was similar) then I urge you to reconsider. Because it is riotously entertaining and upends most of what you expect from a period drama, tosses it in the air and refashions it as something entirely distinctive.
