Report says she had concerns about football coach’s Latter-day Saint recruiting strategy

SALT LAKE CITY The Utah Board of Higher Education expressed “unanimous support” for Utah State University President Noelle Cockett Friday following independent reviews conducted over remarks she made concerning interim head football coach Frank Maile during a meeting with some members of the football team last month.
The board, after meeting in executive session for nearly two hours, voted to approve this resolution:
“Though some remarks made were interpreted as potential or cultural bias, they were not intended as such. President Cockett has long demonstrated her commitment to make USU a welcoming, nurturing environment for people from all backgrounds.
SALT LAKE CITY As thousands of college students across the state head back to class in 2021, the possibility of new outbreaks of COVID-19 on university campuses is a real concern. University officials said they re doing everything they can to control the spread, but it is turning out to be a massive undertaking.
Coronavirus outbreaks at colleges and universities in Utah and nationwide dominated the headlines in early fall, and those outbreaks affected surrounding communities.
A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found counties with large universities experienced a 56% increase in COVID-19 when the campuses opened with in-person instruction.

Now students will only be required to get tested once at the start of the semester.

Utah is dropping its plan to require all college students attending classes in person or living on campus get tested weekly for the coronavirus.
