hi there, everyone. it s 4:00 in new york and we begin today as we have done so many times, too many times, on this show with a crisis that is uniquely ours, uniquely american. today our country witnessed the 129th mass shooting of this year alone, this one, like so many these days, took place at a school. three young students and three staff members were killed today. they were killed at covenant school a private school in nashville, tennessee, after a shooter walked in and opened fire. after law enforcement engaged with the suspect, the shooter was killed, according to law enforcement. the shooter was a 28-year-old woman. at this hour not much more is known about a potential motive but it is worth noting at the top here how rare this particular specific situation is involving the shooter. according secret service there were only five female shooters out of 173 attacks from 2016 to 2020. in washington, d.c., president joe biden has been made aware of the shooting called it s

just a few hours. his remarks coming after a harrowing 24 hours in america yesterday when one gunman shot and killed four people inside a hospital in tulsa, oklahoma, before turning the gun on himself. the shooter whom officials say purchased his ar-15-style rifle just hours before he barged into the facility looking for a doctor he blamed for ongoing pain after back surgery. the tragic attack in tulsa was not the only one to take place. a prison inmate in dayton, ohio grabbed a security guard and fatally shot him. outside in los angeles, a student was shot outside a high school. that incident now among the two dozen acts of gun violence near schools that have taken place since the start of 2022. according to one count there have been 20 mass shootings just since the rampage in uvalde, texas, last week, which of course, became the country s deadliest mass shooting this year, just ten days after a white supremacist murdered ten people and wounded three others in a supermarket
dispatch audio about a child trapped in the middle of the massacre in uvalde, texas. cnn has not been able to confirm this audio clip. it was first reported by abc news. it s unclear when the message was relayed, but according to the texas public safety director there were at least eight 911 calls from at least two callers inside robb elementary. we have a child on the line. he is in a room full of victims. at least 19 officers were just on the other side of the door of that classroom where the student was calling from. texas public safety officials reported the first call from a child came at 12:03 p.m. not until 12:50, 47 minutes later, would officers finally break in and kill the gunman. so the justice department will now investigate the local law enforcement response. one critic called it one of the worst police failures in modern u.s. history. in the meantime, democrats are trying to seize whatever momentum there is on capitol hill for gun reform. here is presi
