The Gary Common Council’s failure to meet the deadline and update its redistricting maps as required by law led the state legislature to look at an amendment that extends the map filing deadline to May 15 and prompted a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city council.
A request Wednesday by one councilman to postpone a decision over a contract for a lobbyist for the Gary Common Council prompted the Board of Works and Public Safety to defer the matter until February.
The Gary Common Council will have two new faces at its meetings next month. David Fossett will be the new council member for the 2nd District, while Lori Latham will fill the second At Large council seat.
