EDEN — Standing high in the headwaters of the Ogden River, Utah’s snow scientists and water managers have a message: Get ready for another season of water shortages.
Operated by the Utah Snow Survey, SNOTEL sites generate data on snow, temperature and soil moisture that scientists use to forecast the drought and health of the snowpack. The newest site is located at northern Utah’s Powder Mountain ski resort by the headwaters of the Bear and Weber rivers.
As drought continues to be a top of mind issue in Utah, experts are gathering data and forecasting the 2022 water year in order to better prepare for what lies ahead.
