Local authorities in Canada apologized after mistaking a woman s burnt body for a mannequin before throwing it in a dumpster.
CBC reports the police and fire departments in Sherbrooke, Quebec held a joint press conference to apologize for the events on Thursday (July 29) nearly a week after the initial incident took place.

Danny McConnell confirmed firefighters received a call regarding a small brush fire near a factor on Cabana Street at around 10:00 a.m. on July 23. When they arrived, witnesses declared that someone had lit a silicone mannequin on fire, McConnell said, adding that the police department was requested to assist firefighters upon the discovery.

McConnell held a news briefing Thursday alongside the city s fire chief and a senior city official during which he apologized to the woman s husband and children. We are evidently sorry for this situation and rest assured the family is being advised at each key moment of this investigation, McConnell said.
Firefighters were called to a brush fire behind a factory just after 10 a.m. on July 23 after witnesses allegedly said they thought a silicone mannequin had been set on fire, McConnell said.
Police were called to the scene about 10 minutes later and they spoke to witnesses, he added. After consulting with firefighters, police decided that what they thought was a mannequin would be taken to a dumpster behind the police station, which isn t accessible to the public.

The Quebec coroner’s office is investigating a gruesome incident in which the burned body of a Sherbrooke woman was mistaken for a mannequin last week and placed in a dumpster by firefighters.
