Young Australians are increasingly turning to alternative investments beyond shares and cryptocurrencies.
Little known exchange-traded funds have surged in popularity during the pandemic, with a product linked to Chinese tech giants vastly outperforming the Australian share market.
The number of investors in the year to August 2020 surged by 58 per cent to 720,000, a survey by ETF platform BetaShares found.
Two-thirds of new investors in exchange traded funds after March 2020 were Millennials and Generation Zs, born after 1982.

NORFOLK, Va. â Old Dominion Universityâs nursing students are stepping up to save lives.
Since last month, 160 nursing students and faculty members have been vaccinating thousands of people in Hampton Roads. They answered a call for help from Sentara Healthcare to administer the COVID-19 vaccines. Students and faculty volunteered and took the online training.
âI had never been called a hero directly before, and I remember when we walked in thatâs what the patients in line were saying,â said ODU nursing student Hannah Wheeler. âTo have a patient directly say that to you was so motivating and was kind of the wind beneath my sails to keep going.â

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio Three teams from Orange High School are advancing to the Ohio Mock Trial district competition Jan. 28 and 30.
This year’s competition is virtual, which has made it even more challenging than usual, according to a news release from the Orange City School District.
