Six candidates vying for four seats on Freedom school board

FREEDOM – Two incumbents and four other candidates are vying for the four open seats on the Freedom Area School Board.  Incumbents Sharon Geibel and Lorilee Patsiga Pail, and candidates Monica Grunnagle, Jennifer Hill and Michelle Micija cross-filed, while Joshua Dean is running as a Democrat. Geibel, 51, of New Sewickley Township, is a self-employed consultant in the legal and family services field. She s running for re-election because she believes all students should receive the highest quality education possible. Pennsylvania school districts continue to be charged with the difficult task of providing high-quality public education while being severely and unfairly underfunded at the state level. I am committed to fighting for our students and for our community, Geibel said.

Ohioville candidates condemn zoning, promote transparency in office

OHIOVILLE – Zoning is a hot topic in the borough, and candidates for mayor and borough council have strong opinions about it. The borough currently does not have a zoning ordinance, and in 2019 council proposed a zoning ordinance. The response was a resounding no from the community, and council eventually tabled it indefinitely. Many candidates running for Ohioville offices this year hope to keep it that way.  Mayoral candidates In the mayoral election, current mayor Kevin Chaffee, a Republican, is running for re-election. Darryl Wolfe, also a Republican, is running against Chaffee. F. John Szatkiewicz is running for the Democrat nomination. 

Ambridge School Board candidates stress budget concerns, transparency

AMBRIDGE – The ballot for the Ambridge Area School Board election looks a little different this year. As opposed to voting for school board members for the traditional four-year term, an additional two-year term will also be listed. Essentially, voters are able to vote for four candidates for the four-year term, and three for the special two-year term. Residents can vote for the same candidates on both the four and two-year sections if desired. All the candidates are cross-filing, running for both parties in this election, except for Kathleen Curtis, a Democrat. Incumbents Scott Angus, Charles Campalong, Curtis, Denise Manganello, William Metz Jr., and Valerie Young and are hoping to return as school board members.
