New owner of Barney’s BakeHouse Bakery Jarrid Weighman said that he is using the 90-year-old recipe that was handed down to him by former Barney’s owner Dan Zielinski. Zielinski provided hands-on training to Weighman on how to make these Fat Tuesday treats. “This is the classic Barney’s recipe that everyone has known around Bay City. The dough is the same and the processes have all came with it,” said Weighman.

Ten years later, the 23-year-old baker takes on his first Fat Tuesday in his own bakery Barney’s BakeHouse Bakery in Bay City. Weighman set up shop at the former Barney’s Bakery at 421 S. Van Buren St. in the fall of 2020 after the historic and original Barney’s bakery, which dated back to 1929, announced it was closing its doors earlier that year. He said that his new operation has seen a great amount of support since its opening.
