The Otago Regional Council (ORC) undertakes flights every
year to gain a bird’s eye view on land use in the region
and identify water quality risks.
While the government
has deferred introducing some of the new regulations around
intensive winter grazing, rules preventing the expansion of
intensive winter grazing still apply.
Ministers David
Parker and Damian O’Connor have set expectations for
measurable improvements in winter grazing practices over the
next 12 months.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta has once again raised concern about so called 501 deportees with the Australian government.
Mahuta took the opportunity at a face-to-face meeting in Wellington today with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne.
Payne flew into the country yesterday for the first face-to-face foreign ministers consultations since the Covid-19 pandemic began and will be meeting with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern tomorrow.
At a media briefing afterwards, Mahuta said the countries have moved on from comments that were made last month by Australia s former home affairs minister Peter Dutton, who said that the deportees were trash . The things that needed to be said were said at the time in relation to the statements made. I can say we continue to raise our concerns around the issue of deportations and the impact it has on New Zealand.

The Five Eyes arrangement between the United States,
United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand has always
resembled a segregated, clandestine club. Focused on the
sharing of intelligence between countries of supposedly like
mind, it has shown that even its own citizens cannot be
guaranteed protection from the zeal of
surveillance.
In recent years, the club has become a
font of other intentions, nudging beyond the group’s
original remit. Since 2013, the intelligence alliance has
seen more ministerial consultations between the countries.
In 2014, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott openly
mentioned the partnership’s existence on national radio.
