The night was perfect, a few days after a full moon. Balmy air. Calm water. All the conditioned aligned for staghorn coral to mingle their eggs and sperm on the gentle incoming tide. But these weren't just any staghorn coral. They were lab babies bred by researchers at the University of Miami in an effort to find the "Lionel Messi" of the reef: corals more resistant to climate change.
