Coronavirus: Test results from contacts of Auckland COVID-19 community cases expected today

Six new cases have been detected in MIQ, but there are no new community cases. A border worker has been sacked after a 20-minute encounter in a guest s room at an Auckland MIQ hotel on January 7. The Northland community case has recovered. No changes will be made to alert levels as there is no evidence of community transmission. This means Kiwis long weekend plans can go ahead unaffected. Two people who completed their MIQ in the Pullman Hotel - the same facility as the Northland case - and at the same time as that case are now being treated as confirmed COVID-19 infections. They are a father and daughter.

Photo credit: Ministry of Health 5:30pm - Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins are pushing back on National s call for a full managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) review after three returnees caught the virus during their stay at a facility.  Over the weekend the Government confirmed that a Northland woman had tested positive after completing 14 days at Auckland s Pullman Hotel MIQ facility. On Wednesday, two family members who stayed at the same facility also tested positive.

Press Release – Joint Press Release In light of yesterday’s two positive COVID-19 cases, two additional pop-up testing stations have immediately been stood up and are open this morning at Orewa and Albany. The Orewa testing station is at Victoria Eaves Park and is open from 9.30am-4pm this Thursday 28 and Friday 29 January. The Albany testing station is at Car Park B North Harbour Stadium and is open from 8am-8pm this Thursday 28 and Friday 29 January. Exact details for the Orewa and Albany pop-up testing stations can be found here. A list of the places visited by the two new confirmed COVID-19 cases can be found here. People who have visited those locations during the relevant time period and anyone in Auckland with symptoms, are asked to stay home and call Healthline to arrange a test and remain at home until they receive their result.
