12/25/2013: A cowboy’s cowboy, Jack Chase died on December 26, 2001. He was a four-time state champion steer wrestler during the 1960s and traveled the rodeo circuit as often as his work allowed from the late 1940s until 1980, when he retired from active competition. Jack was a top rodeo cowboy and a person who did a great deal during his lifetime to promote and keep the cowboy way of life and our western heritage alive.
DICKINSON - The Dickinson Rodeo Club will be saying good-bye to four of its high school seniors: Kiarra Reiss, Luke Mavity, Samantha Sabrosky and Jasmine Pavlicek, but these kids have big plans for the future. Whether it’s for pleasure or for a paycheck, these young athletes can’t get enough of the dirt slinging, speed chasing rodeo thrill. Together, they share their season highlights and post-graduation plans.
11/27/2009: Joan Hecker, Miss Rodeo North Dakota, represented the state at the Miss Rodeo America pageant in Las Vegas on this day in 1962. Hecker, of Belfield, had won not only the Miss Rodeo pageant that year, but also the state barrel racing championship.
Warren and Donna Melvin were a dynamic couple who have created a lasting legacy of family and horses. The Melvin family name is synonymous with rodeo and horse racing.
When Herb and Inez Stoddard settled near Norris, South Dakota over a century ago, they had no idea the fifth generation of Stoddards would be still be there, raising cattle, horses, and rodeoing.
