Dairyfest 2021 kicked off last night in Brookings with the Got Milk Gala. Dairyfest Chair Darrel Rennich says they were happy to return to having an in-person event to celebrate the South Dakota dairy industry.
He says the growth in both dairy processing and production in the state is exciting and is a real shot in the arm for rural communities.
The keynote speaker was Laura Daniels, founder of Dairy Girl Network. She says the organization has been instrumental in helping women network and grow the industry they love.
Rennich says the rest of Dairyfest will look a bit different this year, but still links consumers with the dairy producers that produce the dairy products they eat daily.
Grants totaling $91,293 went directly to coronavirus-related efforts.

Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America, the Farm Credit cooperative’s giving program, has awarded 40 General Use Grants, totaling $182,000. General Use Grants fund initiatives and organizations whose work enrich agriculture and rural America, aligning with Compeer Financial’s mission.
The organization says the grants will directly impact the lives of 1.2 million people and will touch 6.2 million lives. Eighteen grants totaling $91,293 went directly to coronavirus-related efforts.
“The General Use Grant is integral to our organization’s commitment to the farmers and communities we serve,” says Karen Schieler, senior corporate giving specialist at Compeer Financial. “This program impacts the communities where Compeer clients and team members live and work and embodies our commitment to enriching agriculture and rural America.”

One of the last in-person farm meetings to take place in 2020 was the Nebraska State Dairy Association Convention last February in Columbus. Here we are more than a year later, and the 135th NSDA Convention is planned once again for March 18 at the Ramada Inn in Columbus.
NSDA is one of the oldest continually operating farm organizations in Nebraska, dating back to the first organization president, S.C. Bassett, who took the helm in 1885.
