CAP Strategic Plan: New dairy beef scheme proposed

May 27, 2021 1:55 pm A new dairy beef welfare scheme is set to be brought in under the proposed Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) National Strategic Plan for Ireland – with details of this scheme now brought to light. Developed by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) for approval by the EU, the proposed scheme has been outlined to sector stakeholders in recent days. The scheme will form a key part of the proposed CAP Strategic Plan (CSP) for Ireland, according to documents seen by  Agriland. Titled the “Dairy Beef Welfare Measure”, this successor to the Dairy Beef Pilot aims to implement some of the actions identified in AgClimatise for the dairy sector.

76,265 or 58 7% of BPS applications now submitted

Tommy Moyles, Ardfield, Co Cork. \ Donal O Leary The rate of submission of Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) applications is intensifying, with 76,265 applications, or 58.7% of those eligible to apply, submitting an application by close of business on Tuesday evening. This is broadly in line with recent years, with the rate of submission of applications jumping in the final two-to-three-week period. This year’s later closing date of 17 May, to prevent the normal closing date falling on the weekend, means farmers and advisers have three weekends left to submit applications. The bank holiday weekend in May would generally be a timeframe when a high volume of applications are finalised. Advisers will also be contending with REAP applications this year, with the timeframe to submit applications approaching faster, with the deadline set for 10 May.
