God honored the choices of the people, even when he warned them that this decision would lead them away from God’s best plan for their lives. God is a relentless respecter of our free will. He’s not a King by force but only becomes the King of our hearts .
What can we learn from the faith displayed in this story from the book of Daniel that led to a miracle that kept them from harm in the most perilous of circumstances? Their faith stood out in a generation that had known hardship and was living in exile. .
All of these great heroes of the faith from the Old Testament were also men who made great mistakes. The beautiful thing is that God works mightily in their lives and on behalf of his people, even though they are deeply flawed and far from perfect. .
We get tied up in anxious knots over everything under the sun because we lose sight of the one that is truly in control of all of our days here on Earth. We so easily make idols out of our interests, goals, political affiliations, families, bodies, succes.
