The New York Rangers probably wish they could play in a different division right about now.
Two days after dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Boston, the Rangers and Bruins tee it up one more time in a Friday showdown at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are big-time underdogs to a Bruins team that has won eight of nine games and owns the second-best record in the NHL at 8-1-2.

BUFFALO, N.Y. Alexis Lafreniere became accustomed to being patient last year, when the playmaking forward from Quebec had to wait until October to be selected with the No. 1 pick in the NHL draft by the New York Rangers.
Another long wait ended Thursday for Lafreniere, who scored his first career goal 2:47 into overtime to secure a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

“It’s pretty crazy. Overtime, game-winning goal, it was really special,” Lafreniere said. “I’ll never forget this moment, for sure.”
The goal was historic as well, as he became the first No. 1 pick to score his first goal in OT.
Sceviour was the secondary part of the trade that sent Patric Hornqvist to Florida this offseason. His output has dipped in recent years and while he’s an effective enough player to earn another deal beyond this one, he may have to take a small dip as the depth players get squeezed more and more in this cap environment. His role could be lessened this season and if that happens, his arbitration eligibility could wind up working against him if he doesn’t sign early. Blueger’s first full NHL season was a good one and he played his way into a role beyond the fourth line fairly quickly. Unless his offensive game improves significantly, he won’t be in a position to land a big raise but he could come close to doubling his current rate.
