For the second time in as many years, a bipartisan set of the Michigan congressional delegation is urging federal government officials to select Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County as a site to utilize a popular defense jet fighter plane.
Selfridge in Harrison Township is one of five finalists nationwide being considered to host an international contingent as part of the U.S. Air Force s plan to establish an F-35 fighter jets foreign military sales training center.

GENESEE COUNTY, MI The county Board of Commissioners is considering a resolution to declare May as Police Appreciation Month, and some members are defending a request to fly the “Thin Blue Line” flag at all county buildings despite the symbol having been banned elsewhere.
Three of the nine commissioners promoted the actions at a news conference Monday, May 10, two days before a vote on the resolution is scheduled.
“Genesee County’s fallen officers will never be forgotten, nor will their services to their respective communities,” the resolution says in part. “By choosing to commit themselves to law enforcement, these brave individuals answered the call for service and willingly put their lives in jeopardy.”
Two mid-Michigan schools receive combined $140K funding for new buses

GENESEE COUNTY, MI U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee has announced $140,000 in funding for school buses for two mid-Michigan schools.
The Clio Area School District will replace five diesel school buses using $100,000 the federal funding. Whittemore-Prescott Area Schools, north of Midland, will replace two buses with the remaining $40,000.
The funding was awarded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Diesel Emissions Reduction Act program.
“Students ought to be going to school on safe buses,” Kildee, D-Flint Twp., said. “By replacing old diesel school buses with newer and cleaner models, we can both reduce pollution and protect public health.
