A woman has pleaded guilty to federal charges in connection with a sex trafficking operation that stretched from China to Maine.
Derong Miao appeared in U.S. District Court in Portland on Tuesday. She and her husband, Shou Chao Li, were both indicted on a host of charges in 2018. Among other things, Miao admitted that she and her husband rented two properties in Portland that were used for commercial sex, and she helped organize the transportation of four separate women between New Hampshire and Maine for prostitution.

PORTLAND, Maine – A Sanford woman is headed to prison for conspiring to distribute fentanyl, which resulted in death and injury for others.
Jennifer Adams, 40, was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison and four years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Donald E. Clark.
Adams pleaded guilty to the charge on Dec. 18, 2019.
According to court records, Adams and others acquired fentanyl in Massachusetts between August 2017 and April 2018 to distribute it in York County.
“Two people who received fentanyl from members of the conspiracy died, and another person suffered serious bodily injury,” the announcement from Clark s office stated.
