It would be natan sharansky, we are so privileged to have them today. I will not spend any time read describing this biography which know very well in our minds and our hearts, what he endured. It is on the moving stories of the 20th century. I can just say we are honored to have him. We are grateful to our friend, a great journalist, publisher, member of the roosevelt house lord of advisors and was recently in his new role, a teacher in our human rights program. So i am delighted to introduce for this conversation our friend and our new friend, natan sharansky. Snos i want to say how pleased in the middle of the day. This conversation for which we have roughly an hour is an introduction, so i will not do one. And iwill say that natan met in the summer of 1974 in moscow.
We titled the event for the simple reason that lasted little tolerance for and patients with impractical ideas that did not add up. Much of the evening will be given over to hearing from Jake Sullivan. Someone known for his commonsense sense and Strategic Thinking alike. He was a member for 46 years. Less passed away. We planned to do something in his honor much sooner. Covid got in the way of this and so many other things. But we are glad to be able to come together now with so many of you here in the room in person including judy and other members of the family along with literally hundreds of his friends and colleagues. The ultimate test of anybody running an institution is leave it in better shape than he or she found it. That is not meant as a criticism of those who came before, but the nature and measure of the task. He did just that and as the successor, i was the beneficiary. He arrived at the council after having had several careers. Most of us are happy to succeed at one. Wha
