The Air Force is considering using DevSecOps to upgrade the software on the C-130, a versatile military transport aircraft that has been in use since 1956.
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Air Mobility Command seeking two partner companies to work with aircraft prime Lockheed Martin to transform software development culture and practices. It wants recommendations for how to implement a digital enterprise strategy on the C-130 platform by transiting legacy software to a DevSecOps-driven, cloud-native agile software development platform including proposed costs and implementation schedules.
While many “agile” development projects have devolved to waterfall processes, the Air Force wants to move the whole C-130 program office and its contractors “to a true agile culture using cloud-native tools,” according to a Feb. 18 request for information.
Instead of supporting continuous innovation and upgrades to existing systems, we have been seduced by the siren song of exotic new systems that come with equally exotic price tags.
Moving away from the traditional sign-up model and establishing one-stop preregistration systems is one way to resolve the painful vaccine scheduling process.

Agencies likely have the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program on their minds as a result of the Office of Management and Budget’s November memo requiring they share cyber risk data to a new federal dashboard. Specifically, the memo notes, agencies are required to “report the status of their information security programs to OMB,” with inspectors general conducting “annual independent assessments of those programs.”
What should an agency’s “information security program” include? With agencies’ increased emphasis on big data throughout their operations, if the program does not include a strategy for big data and cloud security, it is incomplete.
