BOC seizes nearly 200 tarantulas declared as thermal mugs

(Photo courtesy of BOC) MANILA - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) - Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) on Monday reported the interception of 198 various species of tarantulas misdeclared as thermal mugs in Pasay City. In a statement, the port said the outbound shipment was about to be sent by a sender from Pasay City to a recipient in Italy when it was intercepted by officers at the BOC-DHL Express warehouse on June 7. The package was subjected to X-ray and 100 percent physical examination which led to the discovery of the live animals of different sizes that do not have the necessary permits. It was examined by the Customs Examiner from the NAIA Export Division, with the presence of representatives from the X-ray Inspection Project, Enforcement and Security Service, Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, DHL Express, and Environmental Protection and Compliance Division. MANILA- An estimated PHP5.1 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride commonly known as "shabu" were seized, while two claimants were arrested in a joint operation led by the Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday in Pasay City. In a statement, District Collector Carmelita Talusan said the consignee, from Cainta, Rizal, and his cohort, from San Juan City, were arrested after trying to claim the package at Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City at about 5:45 p.m. on June 2. The shipment was declared as "Bateria, Musical, Dulces" or set of toy drums shipped from Mexico, which arrived last May 30, 2022. Initially, it was discovered by BOC during X-ray scanning, which yielded suspicious images that prompted the Customs Examiner to subject it to 100 percent physical examination. (Photo from BOC-NAIA) MANILA-Authorities headed by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) have arrested two claimants of a package reportedly containing methamphetamine hydrochloride commonly known as "shabu" worth close to PHP4 million in Las Pinas. In a statement released Friday, the BOC said the suspects only identified as a certain resident of Pasay City and a Nigerian national were apprehended after receiving the package during a controlled delivery operation at Marcos Alvarez Avenue corner Veraville Homes, Talon Singko, Thursday evening. The package, containing 588 grams of shabu worth PHP3,998,400 was initially discovered by BOC during x-ray scanning which yielded suspicious images. After conducting 100 percent physical examination of the shipment, the assigned Customs Examiner found white crystalline substances wrapped in aluminum foil and concealed inside a baby bottle sterilizer and dryer. Published May 11, 2021 6:46pm The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group arrested two claimants of three packages containing 9,243 ecstasy tablets worth over P15.7 million. In a statement on Tuesday, the BOC said the nabbed claimants were identified as Rowena Canapit and Michael de Guzman. The two presented an authorization letter from the consignee, a certain Glory Joy Buzeta, in claiming the packages in the Quezon City Postal Office. The BOC said the packages were shipped by a certain Agner Buzeta and Victor Martis from the Netherlands and were declared as handbags and shoes, baby clothes, and clothes.
