There were mixed reactions to the long queues as Fijians rushed to get their AstraZeneca jabs yesterday.
While many gave the response a big thumbs up, others expressed concern at the potential risk of COVID-19 spread because of the long lines and some said the queues showed Fiji’s “last minute” response to critical issues.
At Cunningham Stage 1, The Fiji Times came across Hindu priest Satnesh Sharma who was bringing his mother to get vaccinated.
“The turnout is very good but it also shows people were careless because so many have not been innoculated,” he said.

There are two fresh local coronavirus transmission cases in Suva. The two local coronavirus transmission cases are the children of the woman who resides at Wainitarawau Settlement, Cunningham Stage One. The family attended a funeral in Tavakubu in Lautoka over the weekend which the carrier of the virus, a hotel worker, attended. Permanent Secretary for Health James Fong in a press conference said the children are a seven-month-old boy and a 14-year-old daughter. Dr. Fong said the two children were tested positive for coronavirus this morning. “We have confirmed that two children of the 40-year-old woman who resides in Wainitarawau Settlement have been tested positive for coronavirus,” he said.
