Fredericton council voted Monday to spend $1.6 million on new road and water infrastructure on the north side to service land that will be sold off later for the purpose of creating as many as 100 affordable housing units.
Fredericton city staff are welcoming a proposal to increase density on the north side, and a plan that could lead to as many as 700 units of apartment buildings and townhouses. "We wanted to have a significant amount of density in close proximity so that kids have the opportunity to once again walk to school," said planner Marcelo Battilana.
Saint John and Fredericton will both see work start on new schools next year under a list of infrastructure projects announced Wednesday by the Education Department.
