This comes after the NDP said they received a report from Manitoba s health minister, which shows there is a 25 per cent vacancy rate of nurses in Manitoba s ICUs. For the past year and change, we have been living with public health restrictions that we were told were to buy us time to strengthen our health-care system. Now, even as we look ahead to a reopening, we see there are still many, many positions empty in the ICU, said Manitoba NDP Leader Wab Kinew.

The organization is calling for a three-pronged plan to address the backlog of 39,000 surgeries, 44,000 diagnostic tests and 32,000 other procedures they disclosed last month. This plan would set a target date for the backlog to be cleared, the province to provide proper resources which include the formation of a task force, and for more regular reporting.

On Tuesday, Manitoba NDP Leader Wab Kinew and NDP Health Critic Uzoma Asagwara wrote a letter to Manitoba s chief public health officer, requesting a meeting with him to review COVID-19 modelling and release it publicly. We know that people are growing tired of restrictions, and it is important to remind folks and encourage folks and show folks the reasons why it is important to follow public health orders, said Asagwara.
